Development of personalized MR-guided thermo-chemotherapy for breast conserving surgery
For almost one in three breast cancer patients, chemotherapy is necessary to shrink the tumor in order to enable breast-conserving surgery. Unfortunately, still half of these patients require a more aggressive surgery.
The goal of CARES is to develop an optimized and targeted regimen to deliver a more personalized breast cancer treatment. By including chemotherapeutics within MR-guided, thermosensitive drug carriers, steering will result in local release. Subsequently, this will lead to a higher clinical success rate, reduce the extent and invasiveness of surgery, and therefore improve quality of life.
